Samson Posts Singles Win at ITA Regionals

ATHENS, Ga. (UCFAthletics.com) - Three Knights were in action Saturday at the ITA Southeast Regionals at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Two of the UCF players - Francesc Aulina and Mitch Thams - competed in round of 32 singles action.

Aulina fell 6-4, 6-3 to Sadio Doumbia of host Georgia. Thams faced Levan Clark of Florida A&M and fell 6-3, 6-1.

Thams advanced to the round of 32 by posting a huge victory Friday. The sophomore defeated the tournament's fifth seed, Tripper Carleton of Florida, 6-4, 6-3.

Play at the event began Thursday.

In consolation play, UCF's Mario Samson rallied for a 4-6, 6-4 (10-6) victory over Larry Condez of Jacksonville. In the consolation round of 16, Samson then lost to Diego Soto of Miami, 6-2, 5-7 (10-6).

Next up for the Knights is UCF's final event of the fall, the UCF Invitational, which starts Nov. 4. The three-day event will be held at the UCF Tennis Complex.
