ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's golfer Monifa Sealy (Glencoe, Trinidad and Tobago) has made a successful transition into the college game in her first season. Earlier this week, the talented rookie was honored for her play prior to UCF as she earned Rolex Junior All-American Honorable Mention by the American Junior Golf Association.
Sealy was recognized as one of the top 96 junior golfers ages 13-19. The players tabbed by the American Junior Golf Association will be honored as the Rolex Junior All-American Awards Banquet on Nov. 20 at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens.
Attending the Gary Gilchrist Academy in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla., Sealy put together an impressive four-year resume on various tours around the world. The rookie Knight closed out her prep career winning the FCWT Girls 13-18 National Championship on the Squire Course at the PGA National Golf Club after carding a 219 +3.
Sealy has carried over the momentum from her prep success to UCF, appearing in all three of the Knights' fall tournaments in 2011. Recently, Sealy tied for sixth place overall at the Lady Northern Invitational after shooting a 222 +9. In the second round of the tournament in French Lick, Ind., Sealy carded her first collegiate under-par round (-1).
The Knights, joined by Sealy, will close out their fall season when they travel to San Antonio, Texas, for the Alamo Invitational Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
