BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF suffered a 26-24 loss at UAB Thursday night, and dropped to 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in Conference USA. The Knights will be back in Orlando to host Memphis for Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 29, at 4 p.m.
TEAM NOTES
-The Black and Gold lost its first game on UAB's home field. It entered with a 4-0 record.
-The Knights produced a touchdown on their first two possessions. It was the second time this year they had accomplished that feat (Charleston Southern).
-UCF lost in time of possession for the first time this season. It came into the evening third in the country with a 35:30 average, and ended by trailing 34:19-25:41.
-UCF recorded two interceptions at UAB. For the season, it has seven picks by five different players, led by A.J. Bouye and Josh Robinson who each have two this year.
-A total of nine-different UCF receivers pulled in at least one catch, led by Josh Reese who had four for 41 yards.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
-Junior Brynn Harvey jumped to fourth all-time at UCF with 485-career carries (tied with Elgin Davis). He had 17 attempts Thursday for 74 yards and two touchdowns.
-Kemal Ishmael had a career-high 15 tackles (three solo, 12 assisted).
-True freshman Rannell Hall, who had his first two-collegiate kick returns Oct. 15 at SMU, took back the first kick of the game 34 yards to give UCF field position at its own 48. On his next return, Hall amassed 57 yards to get to the UAB-34, and also had a 39-yard return in the fourth quarter. The Knights went on to score a touchdown on each of those possessions.
-Hall completed the evening with four returns for 160 yards. Meanwhile, junior cornerback Josh Robinson had his first-career kick return Thursday, which went for 15 yards.
-Junior cornerback A.J. Bouye intercepted a pass in the endzone in the second quarter. It was his second pick of the season and the third of his career.
-In his first full collegiate season on the gridiron, junior Ray Shipman posted his first-career interception when he pulled in a Jonathan Perry pass in the endzone on the first UAB drive of the second half. Shipman was formerly a basketball player at the University of Florida, and had 11 tackles Thursday.
-Sophomore quarterback Jeff Godfrey finished 13-for-22 with 133 yards. He has now posted at least 100-passing yards in 17-straight games.
-Redshirt freshman Blake Bortles entered the game in the fourth quarter and went 4-for-4 with 38 yards on his first drive. Latavius Murray capped off the drive with a two-yard touchdown run.
-That touchdown run was Murray's 19th of his career, moving him into a tie for seventh on the UCF all-time list.
-Bortles completed his first six passes of the day, and ended 6-for-10 for 102 yards and his lone interception was on a Hail Mary to end the game.
