Knights ready for ITA tournament

Oct. 20, 2011

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team will be competing in the annual ITA Regionals this weekend at the University of Florida. The Knights hope to continue their impressive fall campaign against such teams as Florida, Florida International, Florida State and Georgia.

Six players will be making the trip to Gainesville, including Jenna Doerfler, Alexis Rodriguez and Taylor Dubins. Dubins is the only Knight to remain unbeaten so far in the fall season, totaling a 3-0 record. Rodriguez and Doerfler have each had only one loss so far in 2011, combining for a 6-1 record in singles play.

The Dubins/Andrea Yacaman duo will be paired up in doubles play for the tournament. The duo has a 3-0 record, solidifying their place as the best tandem on the team. The other two doubles teams head coach Stephanie Nickitas decided to send up include Doerfler/ Courtney Grifith and Rodriguez/Genevieve Lorbergs. In doubles matches, the Knights have tallied a 7-5 record in 2011.

The first round of singles matches is headlined with Rodriguez squaring off against No. 20 Lauren Herring of Georgia. Other important first-round singles matches include Doerfler vs. Sara Lazarevic of Stetson and Lorbergs vs. Alex Apostu of Kennesaw State.

The Black and Gold didn't get a chance to finish the Rollins Varner Classic on the weekend of Oct. 7, due to inclement weather. The ITA will be the first event in over two weeks for the Knights. The ITA Regionals will be held at the Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
