ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - For the second time in 2011, sophomore outside hitter Angelica Crump (Atlanta, Ga.) has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week the league announced Monday afternoon. Crump totaled 45 kills and a .354 attack percentage over the weekend against Rice and Houston.
This award marks the seventh time a member of the team has been honored with a weekly award by the league since 2005.
"Congratulations go out to Angelica for this honor. Her and Rachel (Vukson) are developing a very good connection," head coach Todd Dagenais said. "Rachel has done a fantastic job of creating opportunities for Angelica to score. Now in her first year of being a starting outside hitter, Angelica continues to improve every single day."
Crump's stellar offensive numbers helped guide the Knights to their first-ever win over Rice since joining C-USA in 2005. Spiking down 24 kills against the Owls, Crump was able to land a new career-best in the category and also chipped in on the defensive end with three block assists.
In Sunday's 3-1 loss at Houston, Crump once again led the team in kills with 21, and had her third-straight 20-plus effort in the offensive category. The 6-foot-3 hitter also added three block assists and a block solo to her stat line.
For the weekend, Crump averaged an impressive 5.62 kills-per-set against the Lone Star State opponents, and a whopping 6.12 points-per-set.
At 4-5 in league play, and 12-8 overall, Crump and the Knights will look to get back in the win column Friday night as they host Tulane at 7 p.m.
