UCF Records Strong Final Round at Prestige at PGA WEST

LA QUINTA, Calif. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team posted the lowest score of the final round Tuesday to finish tied for eighth at The Prestige at PGA WEST at the Greg Norman Course. The Knights recorded a 12-under 276 on the final 18 at the three-day, 16-team event.

The round continued UCF's improvement in California. After Sunday's first round, the team was 15th before moving to 12th yesterday. The event featured five of the top-30 ranked teams in the nation, including the No. 6 Knights, who finished at 859 (-5), and tied Northwestern for eighth.

No. 2 Oregon claimed the team title at 832 (-32).Washington placed second at 30-under 834, followed by No. 1 Stanford (840, -24) and San Diego State (843, -21).

UCF was led by sophomore Kyle Wilshire (Georgetown, Ky.). He tied for 21st at 4-under 212. Wilshire posted a 1-under 71 during the final round. Sophomore

Sophomore Jose Joia (Lagoa, Portugal) entered the third round tied for 55th, but carded a 5-under 67 Tuesday. Joia finished tied for 30th (215, -1). Fellow sophomore Ricardo Gouveia (Almancil, Portugal) tied for 34th at 216 (E).

The tournament served as the third of the fall for the Knights.

UCF senior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) tied for 49th at 219 (+3). He totaled a 3-under 69 to conclude the event. Sophomore Hojin Kang (Lake Mary, Fla.) also registered a 3-under 69 on the final 18. Kang moved up 11 spots to finish tied for 72nd.

Cheng-Tsung Pan of Washington took medalist honors at 201 (-15).

The Knights and No. 18 Duke were the lone teams from the east coast competing at the tournament.

UCF will return to action closer to home on Oct. 23 when play begins at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere. The Knights are co-hosting the three-day event with Texas Tech.
