ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF men's basketball head coach Donnie Jones will join a distinguished group of speakers this weekend when he instructs at the Nike Championship Basketball Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. On Sunday, Jones will teach coaches at the clinic about UCF's up-tempo style of play.
Among the other coaches scheduled to speak at the event include Chris Mack of Xavier, Gregg Marshall of Wichita State and Larry Shyatt of Wyoming. Former NBA head coaches Mike Fratello and Don Casey will also be in attendance, as will former Seton Hall coach and current ESPN analyst Bill Raftery.
Jones enjoys speaking at coaching clinics and has been busy on the clinic circuit as of late. Last week, he joined Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy at a Florida Association of Basketball Coaches event in nearby Oviedo. Over the summer, he traveled to the Bahamas to speak to coaches from the Bahamas Basketball Federation.
Jones is in his second year as UCF's head coach. Last season, he guided the Knights to a memorable campaign. His squad won 21 games, defeated No. 16 Florida, Miami, South Florida and Princeton in non-league play, entered the national rankings for the first time and participated in the postseason College Basketball Invitational.
The Knights will mark the start of the season on Friday, Oct. 14 at UKNIGHT Madness at the UCF Arena. The free event, which includes a 3-point contest and a dunk contest, is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Doors to the arena will open at 6:30 p.m. for a select-a-seat event.
