LEXINGTON, Ky. (UCFAthletics.com) - On an overcast chilly and windy day from the University Club of Kentucky, the UCF women's golf team battled the conditions to post the top round of the day at +23 (311) to lead the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational on Friday. Sophomore Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) led the way for the Knights, shooting a two-over 74 to tie for second.

"Today was just a matter of survival because the conditions were so tough, but we were able to finish with minimal mistakes and the girls did a great job of salvaging their round and not making worse than bogeys with conditions like this," head coach Courtney Trimble said.

In her first-ever round on the Big Blue Course, Price tapped in birdies on the fourth and 15th holes to put herself in the top three on the individual leaderboard. The second-year player only shot one-over on both the front and back nine.

"I tell you what, Kaitlyn Price played one heck of a round," Trimble said. "The scores are deceiving because that 74 seemed well under par. Both Kaitlyn and Katie (Mitchell) minimized their mistakes and posted solid rounds."

Mitchell, the Knights' top finisher from the Dale McNamara Invitational two weeks ago, put herself in the top 10 after shooting a five-over 77 on the blustery day. She is currently tied for seventh going into tomorrow's second round.

Rounding out the Knights' top five on Friday were juniors Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) at +7, and Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) with a +9 and freshman Monifa Sealy (Glencoe, Trinidad and Tobago) who shot an 86.

Individually for the Knights, freshmen Heather Proctor (Ocala, Fla.) and Robyn Doig (Seaforth, Ontario) shot a 79 and 82, respectively.

"It was a total team effort out there today, and in order for us to have success for the rest of the weekend it will need to be that way," Trimble said.

The Knights hit the tee box Saturday morning at 10:10 with Sealy leading off for the team.
