TAMPA, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team opened play at the inaugural State of Florida Championships Friday on the USF campus. The three-day event features seven squads from the Sunshine State.
Three Knights picked up singles wins to start the event. Fransesc Aulina handled Florida State's Jason Zafiros, 6-2, 6-4. Facing Will Neuner of Florida Atlantic, Mitch Thams registered a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Juan Bolona was also victorious for the Knights. He topped Gabe Echeverry of Florida Gulf Coast, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles action, Thams and Bolona won a pair of matches, and Gladstone and Aulina won one contest.
The tournament is the second of the fall for the Knights. Play at the event will resume Saturday.
