ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With the cool morning air rolling in and the sight of a harvest moon filling up the Central Florida sky, it can only mean one thing; fall baseball is back! With the 2011 season well in the rear-view mirror, the UCF baseball team is ready to improve on last year's trip to the NCAA Tournament and delve further into postseason play come 2012.
The Knights will get that chance starting next Monday when they take the field for fall practice at the UCF baseball complex. All sessions are open to the public, so fans can grab a sneak peek at the exciting brand of baseball that is set to return in February.
"For me, the whole point of fall baseball is to implement your system and to let kids compete." Rooney said. "I like going earlier in the fall than some other schools because it gives us three weeks before Thanksgiving where we can fine tune guys a little bit. I want our guys when they come out here for those four-and-a-half weeks to compete like crazy and try to earn a job individually, and collectively try to make us a program that gets us to Omaha."
Scheduled times that the Knights will be putting in hard work on the diamond include Mondays at 2:15 p.m., and Tuesdays-Fridays at 2:45 p.m. The Knights will also take to the field each Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m.
The squad will scrimmage against each other on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Some key fall baseball dates to keep open are Scout Day on Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m., and the Black & Gold World Series that is set to take place Oct. 26-28. Games 1 and 2 will be at 3 p.m. on the 26th and 27th, with Game 3 scheduled to be a primetime affair at 6 p.m. on the Friday night before Homecoming.
The fall schedule is subject to change. For further questions, please contact Director of Baseball Operations, Alex Guerra.
