OWASSO, Okla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team, led by freshman Katie Mitchell's (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) team-best 3-over 75, finished the first round of the Dale McNamara Invitational in ninth place. The Knights totaled 308 shots (+20) on the first of three days at The Patriot Golf Club.
Arizona State currently sits atop the 15-team leader board at -20.
Making her collegiate debut, Mitchell was able to put together a team-leading round that included a birdie on the 15th hole. Junior Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) concluded the first day of action with a 5-over 77.
All five Knights concluded the first round under 80 as the trio of Monifa Sealy (Glencoe, Trinidad and Tobago) (78), Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) (78) and Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) (79) finished the afternoon tied at 42 and 49, respectively.
The second round begins Tuesday morning at 9:40 a.m. for the Knights as Price will hit the tee box first with her teammates following in 10-minute increments.
