ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team will join Texas Tech to co-host the nation's premier collegiate golf event, the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, Oct. 23-25. The three-round tournament takes place at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club in nearby Windermere.
The tournament field includes 10 of the top-20 ranked teams in the country, headlined by two-time defending national champion Augusta State. In addition to the Knights and Texas Tech, Alabama, California, Florida, Indiana, LSU, North Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Texas, TCU and Vanderbilt will also compete in the event.
"UCF is honored to partner with Texas Tech and Tavistock Group to co-host the 2011 Isleworth Collegiate Invitational," UCF head coach Bryce Wallor said. "Having known (Texas Tech coach) Greg Sands for several years and the class he brings to the game of college golf, along with the longstanding relationship between UCF and Tavistock Group, makes this a perfect opportunity to showcase the best that college golf has to offer."
The Isleworth Collegiate Invitational was created in 2004 to give collegiate players and coaches the feel of a PGA Tour event. The tournament provides collegiate golfers the opportunity to compete on one of the toughest courses in the nation against the best players in the game. Since the collegiate golf event's inception, numerous touring professionals have been spotted in the gallery following their alma mater on their home course.
Isleworth is a par-72, 7,544-yard championship course originally designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, later redesigned and enhanced by Steve Smyers. Isleworth consistently ranks as one of the longest and most difficult courses in the state of Florida and is home to a number of world-renowned PGA professionals.
UCF has played in the event since its inception. The Knights are coming off a successful 2010-11 campaign in which UCF claimed its third-consecutive Conference USA Championship title and participated in the NCAA Regionals for the fifth-straight year.
