ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's basketball team will begin the inaugural Battle 4 Atlantis tournament with a tough test when the Knights will play the College of Charleston on Thursday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. UCF is one of eight teams competing in the three-day tournament at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, Bahamas.
Head coach Donnie Jones' Knights will play in the event's first game against a College of Charleston squad that won 26 games in 2010-11 and advanced to the postseason NIT quarterfinals.
UCF will then meet either Florida State or UMass on Nov. 25. The Seminoles were an NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 team a year ago when they won 23 contests. The Knights will close the tournament on Nov. 25. Other teams participating in the event include defending national champion Connecticut, UNC-Asheville, Harvard and Utah. Both UNC-Asheville (NCAA) and Harvard (NIT) participated in the postseason last year.
The television schedule for the Battle 4 Atlantis, as well as travel information, will be released at a later date.
The Knights have met the College of Charleston 15 times, most recently in 2003. The programs spent much of the 1990s as rivals in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
UCF is coming off one of the most memorable campaigns in program history. During Jones' first season in Orlando in 2010-11, the Knights started the year 14-0 after posting big non-league wins over No. 16 Florida, Miami, USF and Princeton, entered the national rankings for the first time and played in the postseason College Basketball Invitational.
