ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF Athletics Hall of Fame member Sylvester Bembery joined another prestigious group this month when he was selected to the Arena Football League Hall of Fame Class of 2011. Bembery and Kurt Warner earned the honor on Aug. 12 during ArenaBowl XXIV.
A defensive lineman for the Knights from 1984-87, Bembery made a quick transition out of Miami Carol High School by recording 42 tackles as a freshman including 10 alone vs. Akron. The following year, he collected 58 tackles with six for a loss and five sacks, and as a junior he totaled 72 tackles with five TFLs and four sacks.
To wrap up his memorable stint with UCF, Bembery had 71 tackles in 1987 to finish with 243 in a Black and Gold uniform. Bembery would be elected to the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
Following his days with the Knights, Bembery hooked up with New England of the AFL in 1988 and the league would forever be changed.
