ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Nearly eight months after the 2010 season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the UCF women's soccer team is back in action Saturday night. The Knights will take on defending Big-12 Conference Champion Texas A&M in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. to mark the opening of the newly expanded UCF Soccer Stadium with FREE admission for all fans.
Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on the Black and Gold as they look to begin their season on the right foot with a night of high-quality soccer between two of the nation's top teams.
Head coach Amanda Cromwell will address the crowd prior to the start of the game, thanking fans for their support and encouraging them to come out all season and cheer on her team. In addition to the remarks to the crowd, there will be a ceremonial kick-off to celebrate the opening of the new facility.
The new UCF Track and Soccer Stadium opened in May for the UCF Twilight track meet, but has yet to host a soccer match. Saturday's contest between the Aggies and the Knights will be the first since the facility's expansion finished this spring.
A new grandstand section along with on-site restrooms have been added for fans. The grandstand added seats for 1,475 fans, bringing the total capacity to more than 2,000 for the entire complex. The new press box will comfortably seat all media members along with event and department staff. Fans will also enjoy the new sound system which will help improve the game day atmosphere.
