ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF's Donnie Jones will join an elite group of coaches this week when he participates in a Bahamas Basketball Federation coaches clinic. On Thursday, Jones will help to develop the game of basketball in the Bahamas by instructing coaches at the Atlantis resort.
Other coaches speaking at the clinic include North Carolina's Roy Williams, Kansas State's Frank Martin and Josh Pastner of Memphis. UCF director of program development Brendan Suhr, who spent over 25 years as a coach and executive in the NBA, will also be instructing in the Bahamas.
"It is a great honor to be able to go there and instruct with a great lineup of highly-respected coaches," Jones said. "I always enjoy doing those clinics. I pick up some things as well. It is an honor to be able to be a part of that."
The clinic in the Bahamas is in its second year. Jones is set to talk about UCF's up-tempo style of play during the clinic.
Jones is in his second year at UCF. In 2010-11, he led the Knights to one of the most memorable campaigns in program history. UCF began the season 14-0 after posting notable wins over No. 16 Florida, Miami, USF and Princeton, entered the national rankings for the first time and participated in the postseason College Basketball Invitational. The team concluded the year 21-12 overall.
The trip to the Bahamas for the clinic will be the first of two to the country this year for Jones. In November, the Knights will compete in the inaugural Battle4Atlantis tournament at the resort. Participants in the event include Connecticut, Florida State and Utah.
