ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's basketball team will get an early start to the 2011-12 campaign next week when the Knights head to Canada for a three-game exhibition tour. Head coach Donnie Jones' squad will face one team that features professionals and a pair of Canadian college teams.
Here is a look at UCF's opponents during the trip:
Champlain Saint-Lambert Alumni All-Stars
Aug. 10 at 8 p.m., St-Lambert, Quebec
UCF will open its trip by facing a squad of professionals who attended the Champlain Saint-Lambert prep school in Quebec. The group includes Mohamed Hachad, who averaged 11.8 points as a senior at Northwestern in 2005-06 and now plays in France. The team also features former college players Chad Caterson (Belmont), Negus McKenna (Western Carolina), William Archambault (Davidson) and Max Boudreau (Buffalo).
Carleton University
Aug. 11 at 7 p.m., Ottawa, Ontario
Carleton has won seven of the last nine Canadian national championships, and claimed the crown this past season. The Ravens will be hosting eight NCAA Division I schools in August and July for exhibition contests. Carleton is led by Tyson Hinz. The small forward was named the national player of the year last season after averaging 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds as a sophomore when he shot 57.2 percent from the field and led the Ravens to a 34-1 record.
McGill University
Aug. 13 at 7 p.m., Montreal, Quebec
McGill, which is starting its 110th season of varsity basketball, will play six U.S. teams, including the Knights, in August and September. The Redmen posted a 16-17 overall mark in 2009-10. The team went 10-6 in its conference to finish third. McGill has experienced success against NCAA squads, having defeated visiting Virginia in 2008.
