ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - For the second time this summer, UCF men's basketball head coach Donnie Jones welcomed new students to the university when he spoke at a first-year orientation session at the Student Union Monday. Jones, along with football head coach George O'Leary and women's basketball head coach Joi Williams, is one of the many UCF Athletics representatives who is speaking to incoming students this summer and urging them to UKNIGHT and Get "THE PATCH."
Jones encouraged the new students, and their parents, to get active on campus with athletics and also explore clubs, student organizations and volunteer opportunities.
After talking about his program's successful 2010-11 campaign, which included time in the national rankings for the Knights and huge victories over No. 16 Florida, Miami and USF, Jones reminded the new students to make sure they make it to the UCF Arena once the basketball season starts in November.
"A big part of your education is being involved with organizations and supporting your athletics teams," Jones said after the orientation. "I thought that this year we had one of the best student-body support systems for games in the country. What that student support does for our players is amazing. It really helps our team."
Jones also talked about UCF Athletics' impressive overall 2010-11 campaign, which included several Conference USA Championships, postseason appearances for many programs and 219 student-athletes earning C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll recognition.
Fans can now make sure that they are at the UCF Arena to watch the Knights play in 2011-12. Men's basketball season ticket deposits are currently being accepted by calling the UCF Athletics ticket office at (407) UCF-1000.
