ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Hundreds of incoming freshmen started their collegiate careers by moving onto the UCF campus Saturday, and the new students, along with their parents, received a valuable lesson: how they can UKNIGHT with UCF Athletics. Throughout the day, representatives from UCF Athletics were on hand at the Academic Village residences to promote school pride.

Freshmen had the opportunity to purchase student season football tickets, which include an exclusive t-shirt as well as "THE PATCH." Their parents were able to learn more about season ticket packages, and about the Knights' exciting schedule, which starts with the season opener on Sept. 3 against Charleston Southern at Bright House Networks Stadium.

Members of the "THE PATCH" Patrol were roaming the Academic Village, handing out posters and t-shirts. The group helped new students and parents get a first-hand understanding of UCF Athletics' new marketing campaign: UKNIGHT and Get "THE PATCH." Before the new students met with residence advisors, they were able to learn the UKNIGHT Salute, a new tradition that they can partake in during football games and other events.

Trevor Philtot of Melbourne was one of the many freshmen who moved into the Academic Village Saturday. He purchased student season football tickets, ensuring a seat at all six home games in 2011. He said he felt that UCF Athletics' presence during move-in day will help get new students excited about attending UCF.

"It is pretty awesome," he said. "I like how they are already helping out with school spirit. Giving away t-shirts and some of the other free stuff will really help get students involved."

Local radio stations, including 96 Rock, were also on hand, playing music and offering giveaways.

UCF Athletics has been active this summer in educating new students and their parents about Black and Gold pride. At each new student orientation session, UCF Athletics representatives have been in attendance at the Pegasus Ballroom inside the Student Union, talking about the pageantry and tradition associated with UCF Athletics events. Football head coach George O'Leary, men's basketball head coach Donnie Jones and women's basketball head coach Joi Williams have also spoken about the importance of supporting the Knights.
