EUGENE, Ore. (UCFAthletics.com) - Sheila Paul wrapped up her junior season Thursday night at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. Paul ran in the preliminaries of the 100 meters of the senior meet, but failed to qualify for tomorrow's final heat.
Paul, a Second Team All-American in this event, ran an 11.62 Thursday night, good for 26th overall against some of the best sprinters in the country from both the collegiate and professional ranks. The top three runners advanced in each heat with six remaining spots awarded to the next fastest times.
The UCF sprinter, who was named to the All-Conference USA after finishing second at the league championship meet last month, was in arguably the most difficult heat of the evening. Competing against the eventual top-qualifier in Marshevet Myers as well as Miki Barber, who qualified third, Paul placed sixth in her heat.
UCF will see freshmen Tyler Smith and Aurieyall Scott compete in the 100 meters of the junior meet Friday afternoon. The preliminaries are set for 2 p.m. ET with the finals getting underway at 3:45 p.m. ET.
