ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - This time a year ago, Tristan Spurlock was unsure of his college destination. He had just completed his freshman campaign at Virginia, and was seeking a program where he could excel at the small forward position.
Fast forward this summer. Spurlock, who sat out the past season at UCF due to NCAA transfer rules, is back home in the Washington, D.C., area, working hard on his game in preparation for the 2010-11 campaign. Sitting out the past year was tough for Spurlock, but he is now solely focused on contributing for the Knights this upcoming campaign.
"I am real excited," Spurlock said. "I am excited about doing things like lifting weights, and doing workouts, knowing that I am really a part of the team. It is real exciting."
Spurlock is working out multiple times per day while at home. He will return to Orlando soon and join his teammates for UCF's summer B session.
In 2010-11, the 6-foot-8 Spurlock shined as a member of the Knights' scout team. He concentrated on improving his defense. Spurlock also worked hard in the weight room, and added 10 pounds during the year. He now weighs 230 pounds.
With his first year in a UCF uniform approaching, Spurlock has now turned his attention to improving his ball handling so he can be more of a factor on the perimeter for the Knights.
"I am really working on my handles. I want to make sure that next year when I play on the wing, I am able to handle the ball just like any other guard on the team."
