After graduating from UCF in 1995, Scott Rose was a casual supporter of the Knights. He attended some games, and backed his alma mater when he had time.
Four years ago, Rose made an effort to contribute to the success of UCF Athletics. In doing so, he helped create two of UCF's youngest, but also most passionate supporters.
Proud members of the Golden Knights Club, Rose and his wife Susan, also a UCF alum, encouraged daughters Sydney (age 11) and Sarah (10) to join the GKC earlier this year. Both Sydney and Sarah appear to be well on their way to becoming lifetime supporters of the Knights.
"We decided to start them at an early age," Rose said of his children joining the GKC. "Hopefully it leads them to continue to support the program."
With the 2011 football season quickly approaching, the Rose family is looking forward to again attending games at Bright House Networks Stadium. Rose remembers busing to the Florida Citrus Bowl to watch the Knights play during his time as a student. Now his family enjoys football, and quality time together, on campus.
"It is creating a tremendous set of memories," Rose said. "It is a family affair for me. Both of my daughters enjoy and look forward to going to the games. They run into their friends at the games. I get a chance to run into some of my old friends, and friends that we have met going to games. It is a full day affair. We block out the whole day. We go tailgating, get to visit with some friends and hopefully conclude the day with a W."
Rose operates Scott M. Rose Associates, an Allstate Insurance Agency on North Alafaya Trail. He has been able to witness the recent growth of the university and UCF Athletics, and still marvels at the changes to the campus since he concluded his days as a UCF student.
"I got here in 1992. I lived on campus. I live in Oviedo now. My office is right across the street from campus. Really the last 20 years, my life has revolved around a three-mile radius. I have driven up and down this road a billion times and have just seen the landscape change tremendously," Rose said.
Rose says that he feels an obligation to support UCF's athletics programs. He takes pride in the fact that his daughters now love backing the Knights as well, and never want to miss at UCF home game.
"You are creating memories for them," he said. "They almost look forward to going to the games as much as I do. They have it on their calendars. They really look forward to going."
"I can't wait until I am old enough to attend UCF and be a student," Sydney said. "I really enjoy going to all of the UCF basketball and baseball games."
Like her older sister, who enjoyed watching Beau Taylor compete on the diamond, Sarah, who is obviously excited about the 2011-12 basketball campaign, also has her own favorites.
"My favorite UCF moment was when Marcus Jordan gave me his head band after the (St. Bonaventure) game," she said. "A.J. Rompza used to be my favorite player, and now Marcus Jordan is. I can't wait until the next season starts."
