SOUTHPORT, England (UCFAthletics.com) - Stroke play concluded Tuesday at the prestigious British Amateur Championship and UCF men's golfer Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) posted a major achievement by finishing first among 288 golfers to claim medalist honors. Eason, who just completed his freshman campaign for the Knights, carded a 3-under 68 during the second round at the Hesketh Golf Club Tuesday.

During two rounds of stroke play, he totaled a 4-under 139.

Eason was one of 64 golfers to advance to match play, which will conclude Saturday.

Golfers from 35 countries are participating in the tournament, which is in its 116th year. The winner of the match play portion of the event will receive a spot in this year's British Open Championship, as well as an invitation to the 2012 Masters. The event includes some of the top-ranked amateurs in the world.

Eason recently completed an outstanding rookie season at UCF, where he helped head coach Bryce Wallor's squad claim its third-straight Conference USA Championship title and earn a spot in the NCAA Regionals for the fifth-consecutive year.

A C-USA All-Freshman Team selection, Eason played in all 11 of UCF's events, and posted seven top-10 finishes. He placed second at the C-USA Championship, and early in the year, took medalist honors at the Adams Cup of Newport.
