ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Caryl Smith Gilbert's 2011 Track Academy will take place on Tuesday, June 28 and Thursday, June 30 at the new UCF Track and Soccer Stadium. The camp is open to both boys and girls ages 5-18 and will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The full day camp will be run by UCF track & field and cross country head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert and her staff. Recently, Smith Gilbert was named the 2011 Conference USA Coach of the Year for the second outdoor season in a row while also receiving the honor during the Knights' 2011 indoor season.
Smith Gilbert recently led the Knights to the 2011 C-USA Outdoor Championship, claiming the title for the second year in a row. Having won the 2011 C-USA Indoor Championship, UCF has now won the last three league track & field titles, including both this season.
The camp will take place at the new UCF Track and Soccer Stadium which features newly renovated throwing areas and jump pits.
Smith Gilbert will be joined by assistant coaches Jeff Chakouian and Paul Brown. Chakouian works closely with the UCF throwers, while Brown spent the fall overseeing the program's cross country team and works with the Knights' jumpers and distance runners during the track season. Smith, a former U.S. Track Coaches Association National and Mideast Region Assistant Coach of the Year for sprints and hurdles, has spent the better part of the last decade working with some of the nation's premier sprinters at both Tennessee and UCF.
The cost of the camp is just $69 and includes a UCF Track & Field shirt for all participants. For more information, please visit www.centralfloridatrackacademy.com
