OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (UCFAthletics.com) - One day after finishing fourth at the Conference USA Rowing Championship, the UCF rowing team wrapped-up its regular-season schedule Sunday at the Oak Ridge Invitational on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn., with the Knights' varsity eight team placing first in the B Final as the Black and Gold's top finisher.
Battling a sting of injuries and illnesses, UCF's varsity eight defeated Tulsa, Rhode Island and Miami with a time of 6:42.90 to take home first-place honors in the B Final. Earlier in the day, the Knights placed fourth in their preliminary race behind Clemson, Duke and Louisville after clocking in at 6:46.93.
The varsity four boat also finished fourth in its preliminary heat with a time of 7:55.91, before placing third in the B Final behind Oklahoma and Rhode Island after posting a time of 7:50.54.
A fourth-place finish in the preliminary heat for the Knights' second varsity eight against Clemson, Notre Dame and Rhode Island, put them in the B Final later in the day vs. Duke and Tulsa where it claimed second place ahead of the Rams with a time of 7:00.54.
In the novice eight event, the Black and Gold crossed the finish line in fifth place after clocking in at 7:14.82.
