ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - For the second week in a row, the UCF outdoor track & field landed at No. 17 in U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) weekly rankings. The Knights remain at the same spot in the poll despite a strong showing at the Penn Relays this past weekend in Philadelphia.
UCF's shuttle hurdles, 4x400- and 4x800-meter relay teams all broke school records at the annual meet hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at historic Franklin Field. The 4x400 team not only set the new program mark of 3:36.76, but also finished first in the College Division final heat.
The Knights will now move on to host the UCF Twilight this Thursday, May 5. The meet also marks the opening of the UCF Soccer and Track Stadium. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the new entranceway to the facility on the west side of the complex. Director of Athletics Keith Tribble and head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert will be on hand to help celebrate the opening.
Running events for the UCF Twilight are slated to begin at 4 p.m., while field events will begin earlier in the day at 10 a.m.
Following the Twilight, the Knights will look to defend their 2010 Conference USA Outdoor Championship when they travel to Rice's Track and Soccer Stadium for the 2011 C-USA Championships May 12-15.
