TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team picked up four wins against Conference USA rival Alabama Saturday on Black Warrior River, with the Knights' varsity 8+ boat picking up a nearly seven-second victory in the final event of the day.
The varsity eight squad crossed the finish line in 6:22.8 in the event finale against a Crimson Tide team that was receiving one vote in the most recent CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll - presented by Pocock Racing Shells, with Alabama finishing the race in 6:29.5.
UCF's varsity four boat posted a more than 10 second victory on Black Warrior River against the home squad, crossing the finish line in 7:16.5 ahead of the Crimson Tide who crossed in 7:27.1.
The second varsity four and the novice eight also tallied wins for the Black and Gold in the duel event. The varsity four squad finished in 7:33.0, with the home team following in 7:48.0, while the novice eight posted a time of 6:22.8 to defeat Alabama's times of 6:56.4 and 7:26.4.
Also competing for the Knights in the event was the second varsity eight boat. The squad finished its race in 6:42.4, while the Crimson Tide won the event in 6:35.0.
UCF will be back in action April 16-17 when it competes in the Lake Natoma Invitational in Sacramento, Calif. The Knights will then return to Orlando to host its lone home event of the year April 30 vs. Miami.
