Women's Golf Moves Up at Rebel Intercollegiate

OXFORD, Miss. (UCFAthletics.com) - Freshman Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) finished six strokes ahead of her teammates to highlight the UCF women's golf team's action at the Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss.

The Knights gained four places in the standings during Sunday's final 18 holes of play as UCF took home a 303 today to finish in 12th place overall with a 924 (+60). The 303 that UCF shot today was its lowest round of the event and tied host Ole Miss for fourth overall in the 18-team field on Sunday. No. 14 Tennessee obliterated the previous tournament record with its 863 (-1) to claim the team title, a drastic 30 strokes ahead of second place Tulsa's 893 (+29). The Golden Hurricane finished five strokes ahead of No. 10 Tulane's third-place sum of 898 (+34).

Sophomore Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) was UCF's top shooter in the final round on Sunday, caring a 73 which matches Price's opening round for the best 18 hole score of any Knight at Ole Miss. Fontaine's overall tally of 231 (+15) ranked her third amongst Knights for the event.

Price led from start to finish for UCF and picked up a top 20 finish overall as her 54-hole 224 (+8) left her knotted for 19th place. Sophomore Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) shot a 74 on Sunday, her best score of the tournament, to post a 230 (+14) and rank second amongst the Knight competitors.

Sophomore Jordyn Hage (Winter Park, Fla.) finished up with a 239 (+23) while senior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) was UCF's fifth finisher with a 252 (+36).

The Knights will conclude their 2010-11 campaign in two weeks as the Knights head to Gulf Shores, Ala. For the Conference USA Championship April 17-19. A total of six C-USA squads playing at the Rebel Intercollegiate this week and the Knights placed ahead of both SMU and Memphis.
