ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The future of the UCF women's golf program is in great hands. The 2011-12 signing class recently compiled by head coach Courtney Trimble with the addition of Robyn Doig (Seaforth, Ont.), can be looked at as not only one of the best in school history, but as one of the nation's elite with two top-30 golfers in the 2011 class.
"We are very excited to have these four talented young women join our team. With a solid core of returning players, and the addition of the experienced signees, we are confident that we can compete against the best in the country. Assistant coach Mary Bryan and I believe in each of these young student-athletes and that they can and will represent UCF to the best of their ability," Trimble said.
Recent signee Robyn Doig (Seaforth, Ont.) is the latest addition to the Knights' talented recruiting class. The Ontario native is a member of the High Performance Golf Program, won the Canadian Optimist Championship and placed 24th at the RGCA Championships.
Doig joins earlier signees Heather Proctor (Silver Springs, Fla.), Monifa Sealy (Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.) and Katie Mitchell (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) as the 2011-12 signees for the Knights.
Sealy is the No. 22-ranked junior golfer in the 2011 class and No. 56 overall according to Golfweek. In the Polo Golf rankings, according to AJGA, she is ranked No. 15 in the 2011 signing class and No. 49 overall. Three top-five finishes this year, including a victory at the 2011 Puerto Rico Junior Open, have Sealy confident heading into collegiate play for the Knights.
Proctor had a promising senior season at Lake Weir High School, leading her team to the district championship and helping the school qualify for its first ever regional appearance. Golfweek has her as the No. 26-ranked golfer in the 2011 class and No. 67 overall. According to the AJGA, Proctor is the No. 45-ranked golfer in the 2011 signing class.
Mitchell is ranked as the No. 101-ranked signee of the 2011 class according to Golfweek. She earned all-district and all-region accolades in route to leading Fernandina Beach High School to a district title.
The talent and experience of this group will help the Knights contend against the nation's premier programs next fall, and potentially qualify for the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2009.
