ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - As the No. 75 UCF women's tennis team (11-7) finished the regular season with a four-match win streak, it is now set to face competition Thursday at the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
UCF will face tough competition, as four other C-USA teams that are nationally ranked. Below is a preview of the teams that will be participating in the weekend's championship.
No. 12 UAB
Record: 7-12
C-USA Record: 0-4
- UAB came close to winning its final match against Troy, 4-3
- The Blazers have been strong at the No. 2 and No. 5 singles spots, going 13-6 in both positions this year
No. 11 UTEP
Record: 6-13
C-USA Record: 1-3
- The Miners No. 6 singles player, Ximena Fuentes, holds an 11-5 record at that position and holds a four-match win streak
- UTEP is coming off a 6-0 victory over Southern Miss on April 9
No. 10 Southern Miss
Record: 8-13
C-USA Record: 2-5
- Combined at the No. 3 and 4 singles spots, Elja van Berlo holds an impressive 10-4 record
- Closing out the season with a 4-2 record at the No. 3 doubles position are Asa Bengtson and Zoe Lee
No. 9 Houston
Record: 16-7
C-USA Record: 2-2
- Houston has won nine of its last ten matches with its only loss coming to SMU
- Celia Fraser and Giorgia Pozzan hold an 8-3 record at the No. 1 doubles spot, with only two losses in their last eight matches
No. 8 Tulane
Record: 11-10
C-USA Record: 2-1
- The Green Wave has a strong line-up, with a 12-7 record at both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles position
- The No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams both have nine wins in the dual-match season
No. 7 East Carolina
Record: 17-8
C-USA Record: 1-3
- On April 12, ECU collected a 6-1 victory over Charleston Southern
- Jessica Cook holds a solid 11-9 record at the No. 1 singles spot
No. 6 Memphis
Record: 15-9
C-USA Record: 3-2
- The Tigers' Marlya Slupska, Courtney Collins and Stefanie Mikesz have collected 18, 17 and 16 singles wins, respectively
- In its final three home matches, Memphis was able to build its home win-streak to a perfect 10-0
No. 5 UCF
Record: 11-7
C-USA Record: 3-1
- UCF is 5-5 in the C-USA Championship and has won a first-round match in each of their first five years in C-USA
- In the past ten matches the Knights have collected seven victories and are now on a four-match win streak
No. 4 Rice
Record: 13-9
C-USA Record: 3-2
- Rice is a strong contender with all three of its doubles teams having double-digit wins
- Rice currently holds a No. 66 ranking in the national standings
No. 3 Marshall
Record: 17-5
C-USA Record: 1-0
- Marshall's Michaela Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna hold a perfect 18-0 record at the No. 1 doubles position
- Marshall fell to Tulsa last season at the C-USA Championship
No. 2 SMU
Record: 19-4
C-USA Record: 3-1
- SMU is currently on a seven-match win streak heading into this weekend
- Marta Lesniak has 20 wins at the No. 1 singles spot in the dual-match season
No. 1 Tulsa
Record: 22-2
C-USA Record: 3-0
- Tulsa holds the highest national ranking in Conference USA at No. 22
- The Golden Hurricane has not lost since Feb. 11 when they fell to Arkansas, 4-3
