ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF senior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) was named to the prestigious Conference USA Men's Tennis All-Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday. A political science major, Schwartz was one of seven conference student-athletes selected to the squad.
Schwartz has a 3.55 cumulative grade point average. The all-academic squad includes student-athletes who hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and have competed in at least 75 percent of their team's scheduled matches. Media relations directors from the league's schools selected the team.
In 2010-11, Schwartz has recorded 14 singles wins, with 10 of the victories coming during the spring. He has excelled in doubles competition, where he plays with junior Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.). The tandem is 20-12 on the season, including a 12-8 mark at the No. 1 spot. In the fall, the pair spent time in the national rankings.
Earlier this month, Schwartz earned a spot on the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for the fourth time during his career.
Schwartz and the Knights will open play at the C-USA Championship in Tulsa, Okla., on Friday morning against Memphis.
Joining Schwartz on the all-academic team was East Carolina's Jaroslav Horvath and Massimo Mannino, SMU's Tobias Flood, Southern Miss' Jan Burmeister and Tulsa's Clifford Marsland.
