GULF SHORES, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF sophomore Jordyn Hage (Winter Park, Fla.) shot a final round 75 (+3) and finished in a tie for seventh overall, to help lead the Knights at the 2011 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala., Tuesday afternoon.
UCF improved two shots from yesterday's score, turning in a 303 (+15) in the final round to finish with a 912 (+48) for fifth. The Knights came within one shot of fourth-place Memphis at 911 (+47), and finished just eight strokes behind the 2011 C-USA Champion UTEP at 904 (+40).
"The team played their hearts out this weekend," head coach Courtney Trimble said. "Our goal was to stay in contention throughout the tournament and give ourselves a chance on the final day, which we did. I am very pleased at how the ladies played all year long and we are sad that our season has come to an end, especially because we have such a great group. The experience that our young players have gotten this season gives us a positive outlook on the future for UCF women's golf."
Hage performed well in the last three tournaments of the season with the culmination coming at the C-USA Championship. Finishing with a 225 (+9), Hage turned in her lowest 54-hole score and her top finish of the season. Sophomore Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) steadily improved throughout the championship, carding a final round 75 (+3) and leaving her with a 228 (+12), tied for 12th place.
