GULF SHORES, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team has played its way into contention for the Conference USA women's golf championship as the Knights will enter tomorrow's final round just five strokes off of the pace and as one of six schools within six strokes of the title on a very tightly packed leaderboard. The league crown is being decided at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala.

"All we wanted to do today was put ourselves in a good position heading into the final round and we did that," UCF head coach Courtney Trimble said. "It took a total team effort, which we got, and now we look forward to having a chance to win it all tomorrow."

UCF stands in fifth place overall with a 609 (+33). UTEP leads the congested field at 604 followed by No. 13 Tulane (607), SMU (608), Memphis (608), the Knights (609) and Tulsa (610). The third and final round of the 54-hole event will tee off on Tuesday morning. UCF's best-ever finish in the C-USA Championship was a second place showing in 2009. The women's golf team is vying to join UCF's football, women's soccer (regular season), women's basketball (tournament) and women's indoor track & field teams as 2010-11 C-USA champions.

Sophomore Jordyn Hage (Winter Park, Fla.) is currently pacing the Knights. Hage was one of three UCF golfers to fire a 76 on Monday, giving her a two-round total of 150 (+6) that ties her for fifth-place in the tournament field. Price was joined a plus-four today by sophomores Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) and Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile). Overall, Pinegger is tied for 16th with a 153 and Fontaine stands deadlocked for 25th position with a 156.

Freshman Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) fell back to fourth amongst her teammates on Monday after leading the Knights on Sunday. Price has a 36-hole count of 157 while senior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) shaved seven strokes off of her Sunday score and boasts a 161 heading into potentially the final round of her decorated collegiate career.

Play for the Knights begins at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday and will see UCF matched up with Memphis.
