GULF SHORES, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) -UCF freshman Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) shot a one-over-par 73 and is currently in fourth place overall after the first 18 holes of play at the 2011 Conference USA Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala. to lead the Knight women's golf team.
UCF carded a 304 (+16) for the first round and is in fourth place, one shot behind No. 13 Tulane at 303 (+15) and only two shots behind the leaders SMU and UTEP at 302 (+14).
"I was very pleased with the performance of the team today. Our goal was to stay in contention after the first 18 holes, and we did just that. We are excited to get back out on to the course for the second round and continue playing at a high level," UCF head coach Courtney Trimble said.
Price turned in another solid first round performance, shooting a 73 (+1) and currently sits in fourth place overall. Price birdied the first, eighth and 15th holes to help lead the Knights in the first 18 holes of play. Sophomore Jordyn Hage (Winter Park, Fla.) birdied three holes on the back nine, leaving her with a 74 (+2) and in a tie for fifth place overall.
Sophomore Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) came in with a first round 77 (+5) and will look to help UCF make a move on the second day of play. Pinegger is in a nine-way tie for 16th place. Fellow sophomore Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) had a tough afternoon recording an eight-over-par 80 as did senior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) who finished with an 84 (+12).
