SACRAMENTO, Calif. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team completed its opening day at the Lake Natoma Invitational Saturday against some of the top boats in the nation. The team will conclude the event Sunday with single races for each boat.
The varsity squad opened the day against Stanford and Wisconsin, with the varsity four boat getting things started for the Knights by posting a 7:43.57 finish against the pair of squads, before the second varsity eight crossed the finish in its race in 7:08.46.
The varsity eight competed against the No. 5 Cardinal and the No. 9 Badgers in the final varsity event of the morning session, finishing in third place with a time of 6:45.0.
UCF's novice squad raced in its only event of the day to conclude the morning session, finishing in 7:17.54 behind California and Stanford to advance to the P Final Sunday at 9 a.m.
In the afternoon session, the Black and Gold varsity team raced against the Golden Bears and Conference USA-foe Tennessee. The varsity four finished in third behind the pair of squads with a time of 7:59.36, while the second varsity eight also finished in third after crossing the finish line in 7:14.03.
The Knights' varsity eight finished in 6:50.96 behind No. 4 California and the Lady Volunteers, who were receiving 29 votes in the latest CRCA Coaches Poll.
The varsity four takes to the water bright and early Sunday morning at 8 a.m. against Sacramento State and Oregon State, before the second varsity eight shoves off against the pair of squads at 8:30 a.m.
UCF's varsity eight will conclude the day vs. the Beavers and the Hornets at 9:20 a.m.
The Knights are set to host their lone home event of the year April 30 vs. Miami.
