DENVER, Colo. (UCFAthletics.com) - Playing its second match in as many days, the UCF men's tennis team came up just short Sunday, falling 4-3 to No. 73 Denver at the Pinehurst Country Club. The Knights opened the contest by winning the doubles point, but the hosts recovered to take four of six singles matches.

The match was played indoors due to inclement weather in Denver. The Pioneers improved to 8-12 with the win, while UCF fell to 9-13.

In doubles, UCF picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 3, junior Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) joined freshman Erik Brunskog (Linkoping, Sweden) for an 8-5 triumph over Varun Gunasseelan and Angel Alvarez. Facing Yannick Weihs and Alex Clinkenbeard at No. 2, junior Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) and freshman Matthew Zachary (Bossier City, Fla.) were 8-6 winners.

In singles action, junior Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Mario Samson (Miami, Fla.) recorded victories for the Knights. Samson eased past Angel Alvarez at No. 6 (6-0, 6-0). Delinks handled Gunasseelan, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 5.

UCF had a chance to win at No. 4, but Clinkenbeard rallied for a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win over freshman Mitch Thams (Queensland, Australia).

The contest was the second of two in Colorado this weekend for the Knights. UCF will conclude the regular season Wednesday at Embry-Riddle.
