OXFORD, Miss. (UCFAthletics.com) -UCF freshman Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) shot a one-over-par 73 and is currently in a tie for 11th place overall after the first 18 holes of play at the Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss to lead the women's golf team.
UCF carded a 304 (+16) for the first round and is in ninth place, one shot behind eighth place Southern Mississippi at 303 (+15) and three shots behind seventh place Michigan at 301 (+13). No. 10 Tennessee leads the field by eight stokes after turning in a 290 (+2), followed by a log jam for second place with three teams (Ole Miss, Maryland, Coastal Carolina) all tied at 298 (+10).
Sophomore Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) played well in the first round recording a four-over-par 76 and sits in a tie for 31st. Fellow sophomore Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) is one shot behind teammate Fontaine, shooting a 77 (+5) on the first day.
Sophomore Jordyn Hage (Winter Park, Fla.) turned in a first round 78 (+6), and senior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) posted an 82 (+10).
Play continues Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. CT. The Knights will be paired with Southern Miss and Michigan.
