GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Freshman Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) recorded her first career Top 10 finish to lead the UCF women's golf team at the SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational this weekend at the University of Florida's par-70 6,002 yard Mark Bostic Golf Course.
UCF's final round 311 gave the team a 919 (+79) for the tournament and placed the Knights in 12th. No. 34-ranked Florida claimed the championship on its home course with a total score of 865 (+25). Sunshine state rival Florida State finished in second place with an 883 (+43), 10 shots better than third place Ohio State which posted an 895 (+55).
Earning her second career Top 20 finish, Price had six birdies in her 54 holes of play. Her 67 left her in first place after the first 18 holes of the tournament. Price finished the tournament with a total score of 217 (+7). Price's previous career best finish came this past fall at the Labor Day Shootout which was played at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. where she tied for 15th place in a much smaller field. This marked the third time this season Price was the Knights' top finisher.
Sophomore Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) carded a third round 82 giving her a tournament total of 233 (+23). Fellow sophomore Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) completed her SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational with a 243 (+24). Senior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) turned in a third round 79 leaving her with a 239 (+29). Sophomore Jordyn Hage (Winter Park, Fla.) recorded a 241 (+31) for the weekend which included two birdies in the final round.
UCF is back in action when it heads to Stockbridge, Ga. to participate in the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate March 21-22 hosted by Georgia State.
