Austin, Texas (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team officially opened its 2011 season Friday afternoon vs. Wisconsin at the Longhorn Invitational hosted by Texas on Lady Bird Lake, and despite a tough showing, fell to the Badgers in five events.
In the Knights' first event of the day, the novice eight team finished in a time of 8:09.4, before the second varsity four crossed the finish line in 8:30.6 in its event.
The varsity four squad concluded its race against Wisconsin in a time of 8:30.6, while the second varsity eight fell to the Badgers with a time of 7:55.1.
In the main event, No. 10 Wisconsin took top honors from the Knights after crossing in 7:14.4, with the Black and Gold following close behind in 7:27.2.
On day two of the Longhorn Invitational Saturday, the Black and Gold will face-off against San Diego, who is receiving votes in the latest coaches poll, beginning at 8:48 a.m., before taking on Kansas State in the afternoon session beginning at 5:28 p.m.
UCF will conclude the Longhorn Invitational Sunday vs. Oklahoma beginning at 9:20 a.m.
The Knights will host its lone home event of the year April 30 vs. Miami.
