ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Facing another nationally-ranked opponent, the UCF men's tennis team fell 6-1 Friday to No. 59 UNC-Wilmington at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Seahawks (10-2) served as UCF's fifth ranked foe of the spring.
UNC-Wilmington claimed the doubles point and then won five of six singles matches. UCF fell to 6-7 with the loss.
The Knights picked up a victory at No. 6 singles from freshman Mitch Thams (Queensland, Australia). Facing Ilia Ziomtsov, Thams recorded a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win.
At the No. 1 spot, Michael Pereira held on for a 6-3, 6-2 win over UCF senior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.).
UCF will return to action on Sunday, hosting No. 71 Iowa at 11 a.m. The contest will serve as Campus Kids' Day, and the first 50 kids to enter the UCF Tennis Complex will receive free UCF Silly Bandz. Admission is free for the match.
