VALDOSTA, Ga. (UCFAthletics.com) - Sophomore Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) highlighted the UCF women's golf team's final round of play at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge by taking home a one-over-par 74 as the Knights wrapped up play in Valodsta, Ga.
Overall UCF shot a 311 on Tuesday to give the Knights a total score of 935 for the event's three days and 54 holes of competition. The Kngihts would place ninth out of the 13 schools which completed the event which saw Chattanooga take home the champion's trophy by shooting an 896. The Mocs were victorious by a nine-stroke margin, easily outdistancing Coastal Carolina, the 2011 UCF Challenge champion.
Sophomore Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) led the Knights overall for the event and tied for 17th place overall with her 229 (+10) at the rare par-73 course. Fontaine's 74 on Tuesday was UCF's second-lowest round of the whole event and lifted her to a second place finish amongst her teammates with a 233. Freshman Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) carded a 235 for the tournament, including a solid 77 on Tuesday and tie for 39th overall. Senior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) finished fourth amongst her teammates with a 241 while sophomore Jordyn Hage (Winter Park, Fla.) carded a 243 for the three-day event.
The Knights will have a quick turnaround before their next event as UCF returns to action March 6-7 in Gainesville, Fla. at the SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational. It will mark the third spring in a row that the Knights have played at the par-70 Mark Bostic Golf Course including an appearance there in the 2009 NCAA Regionals.
