ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team concluded a busy weekend Sunday by sweeping Florida Gulf Coast, 7-0, at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Knights won at all three doubles spots and then took each of the six singles matches.
The match concluded a stretch of three contests in four days for the Knights, who improved to 5-5 with the win.
At No. 1 singles, freshman Erik Brunskog (Linkoping, Sweden) recorded a 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Matthew Rock. Facing Gabriel Echeverry at No. 2, senior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Junior Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) improved to 7-3 this spring with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Steve Binniger at No. 5. At No. 3, junior Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) handled Dean Tsasmas, 6-0, 6-2.
A pair of freshmen also won their singles tilts for the Knights. Leonel Vivas (Caracas, Venezuela) was victorious at No. 4, and Mitch Thams (Queensland) picked up a win at No. 6.
Florida Gulf Coast fell to 0-5 on the year.
At the top doubles spot, Delinks and Schwartz held on for an 8-6 victory over Echeverry and Rock.
UCF will return to action on Friday, hosting Miami at 2 p.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex. Admission is free for the match.
