ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Senior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) recorded a victory at No. 2 singles to help the UCF men's tennis team clinch a 4-3 victory over local foe Stetson Thursday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Knights, who improved to 4-4 with the win, took the doubles point and then won three of six singles matches.

Facing Cesare Gallo, Schwartz registered a 6-3, 7-6 win. The Hatters fell to 8-2 with the loss.

In doubles, Schwartz joined junior Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) at No. 1, where the pair defeated Njal Stene and Maksim Levanovich, the 40th-ranked duo in the country, 8-5. At No. 2, junior Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) and freshman Matthew Zachary (Bossier City, La.) defeated Gallo and Didrik Berg (8-4). At the No. 3 spot, freshmen Erik Brunskog (Linkoping, Sweden) and Mitch Thams (Queensland, Australia) outlasted Alex Hackett and Chris Swanteson, 8-7.

"Again, our doubles set the tone for us and we competed well in singles to get the win. It is a good way to start off the weekend with two more matches on the way in the next three days," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said.

The match was the third in a 10-contest homestand for the Knights. UCF also tallied singles wins at No. 3 and No. 6. Freshman Leonel Vivas (Caracas, Venezuela) handled Stene, 6-0, 6-1. Thams was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Swanteson at No. 6.

UCF will return to action Saturday, hosting Florida Atlantic at 11 a.m. The squad will conclude the weekend Sunday against visiting Florida Gulf Coast at 10 a.m. Admission to both matches at the UCF Tennis Complex is free.
