ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team was unable to pick up a home victory Sunday as North Florida claimed a 5-2 win over the Knights at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Ospreys (5-2) took the doubles point to start the match, and then won four singles contests.
UCF (3-4) registered singles wins at No. 2 and No. 4. Facing Leonardo Nahar at No. 4, junior Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 triumph. At the No. 2 spot, freshman Erik Brunskog (Linkoping, Sweden) was too much for Daniel Sotomarino. Brunskog was a 7-5, 6-4 winner.
At the top spot, the Ospreys' Moritz Buerchner defeated senior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.), 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles competition, Buerchner and Beauregard Treyz defeated Schwartz and Delinks at No. 1 (8-5). UCF was victorious at No. 3, where Brunskog and freshman Mitch Thams (Queensland, Australia) beat Pedro Davisson and Nahar, 8-5.
"Losing the doubles point cost us momentum for the match. UNF played with lots of energy in both singles and doubles," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said.
The contest was the second of a season-high nine-straight home matches for the Knights.
UCF will return to action on Thursday, hosting local rival Stetson at 2 p.m.
