ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team (2-0) travels to Gainesville, Fla., this Friday to face No. 7 Florida (4-0). The event marks the second time this year the Sunshine State teams have met after the Knights opened the fall season at the Gator Invitational.
The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. at the Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. On Saturday, the Knights secured their first road victory at Jacksonville with a 4-3 win. The Knights took two of three doubles matches against the Dolphins led by junior Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) and senior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.). Junior Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) joined freshman Matthew Zachary (Bossier City, La.) for the second victory.
Delinks went on to clinch the win for UCF with his No. 4 singles victory. The Knights also picked up victories at No. 3 from freshman Leonel Vivas (Caracas, Venezuela) and at No. 6 from sophomore Mario Samson (Miami, Fla.).
The Gators are also undefeated with all four of their matches being at home. Last week they clinched a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash. The Knights are seeking their first team victory against the powerhouse Gators.
After Florida, the Knights return home to finish their weekend against Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday at the UCF Tennis Complex.
