ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Apopka native and former UCF forward Kim Newsome was one of eight players invited to participate in training camp for Sky Blue FC of Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) beginning on March 1. The team is preparing to head to Turkey March 12-20 for the International Women's Tournament of Champions before opening its regular season April 10 when it hosts the Philadelphia Independence at Rutgers University.
Newsome is coming off an impressive season as a Knight where she helped lead the Black and Gold to the NCAA Second Round and a Conference USA regular-season championship.
An All-C-USA Second Team selection, Newsome was a member of the C-USA All-Tournament Team and the NSCAA All-Central Region Third Team as well. She scored 10 goals and had 27 points in 2010, including five game-winners.
Newsome joined the Knights in 2009 as a junior where she had eight points.
Sky Blue Soccer was established in 2006 and made its debut with the launch of Jersey Sky Blue in the W-League of the United Soccer Leagues in 2007. For more information visit womensprosoccer.com/ny.
