SORRENTO, FLA. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team made history on Sunday, recording a school record single round team score of 286 to currently sit in third place after the first day of the UCF Challenge at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.
Sophomore Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) tied her career-low round on Sunday, shooting a three-under-par 69 to lead the Knights after the first 18 holes and tie for fourth overall. Sophomore Jordyn Hage (Winter Park, Fla.) posted a career-best 18-hole score with a one-under-par 71 for the Knights.
UCF's 286 puts the team in third place trailing only No. 14 Tulane who posted a 284 (-4) and Coastal Carolina 285 (-3) by just one stroke.
"We played a great round of golf today and it's an incredible start to the tournament," UCF head coach Courtney Trimble said. "I couldn't be more pleased with the overall team performance. There is still a lot of golf left to play, but we are excited with our first round scores."
Sophomore Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) shot an even-par 72, senior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) recorded a two-over 74 and freshman Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) carded a five-over 77 for the Knights.
Competing as individuals, freshman Isabelle Bachtiar (Karlestad, Sweden) shot an 81 and sophomore Sunny Harris (Pensacola, Fla.) finished with an 85.
The team gets back to action tomorrow morning with the second round of the UCF Challenge. Play begins at 8:30 a.m. with UCF's tee times beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the final pairing.
