TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) - In its second road contest of the season, the UCF women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at No. 42 Alabama Saturday. It was the first dual-match between the Knights and Crimson Tide (4-1), as the Black and Gold fell to 2-2 on the year.
Alabama managed to jump out on top, 1-0, by sweeping all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 position, it was a top-50 clash but the Crimson Tide's Alexa Guarachi and Courtney McLane, who are ranked No. 6 in the country, topped No. 44-ranked Courtney Griffith and Genevieve Lorbergs, 8-2.
Facing three nationally-ranked singles player, UCF was unable to get on the scoreboard in singles action. Freshman Josephine Haraldson came extremely close at picking up a victory at the No. 6 spot, splitting the first two sets against Meritt Emery only to fall in the third-set super tiebreaker, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0(11-9).
UCF will now make the short trip over to Birmingham to face Conference USA foe UAB Sunday at 12 p.m.
