ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Senior pitcher Brennan Dobbins was awarded with the highest honor handed out to a UCF student this week when he received the Order of Pegasus. Dobbins became the fourth student-athlete at UCF to earn the prestigious accolade since 2001.

"I found out I was awarded the Order of Pegasus through the selection committee and I was really excited," said Dobbins, a native of Longwood and graduate of Lake Brantley High School. "It's a great honor, and the way I've looked at the award from the beginning is that the students who are given this award are ambassadors for the University. I can think of no greater compliment that I could have received from UCF."

The Order of Pegasus honors outstanding undergraduate academic achievement, university involvement, leadership and community service. Graduate students are selected separately based on academic achievement, professional or community service, leadership and publication or research experience.

A total of 18 UCF students were honored with the award, and the winners will be recognized at an invitation-only ceremony later this spring. The names and a picture of the inductees will be added to the wall of the Pegasus Lounge, which is located on the second floor of the Student Union overlooking the Pegasus Ballroom.

Inductees also receive commemorative medals, Student Government Association scholarships and lifetime memberships to the UCF Alumni Association.

Dobbins is enrolled in the College of Engineering and has been a member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll from 2007-09, as well as the UCF Athletic Director's Honor Roll every year. He has represented UCF at the National Student Athlete Development Conference, and currently serves on the UCF Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as vice president and C-USA liaison.

Along with earning the C-USA Sportsmanship Award as a junior, Dobbins received the 2009 Dr. Richard Lapchick Award which is given to a student-athlete who best demonstrates and promotes community service.

On the diamond, Dobbins was one of the primary pitchers on the staff in 2010, working 40.1 innings in 20 games including six starts. He was 3-0 on the mound highlighted by a victory over Miami, and struck out 40 batters.

Dobbins and the Knights have one more week of preseason camp before Opening Day Feb. 18 against Siena. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (407) 823-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com.
