ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Coming off a Freshman All-American season, UCF baseball left-handed pitcher Joe Rogers (Winter Haven, Fla.) was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award Watch List Tuesday. The sophomore posted eight saves in 2010, which were the third-most in UCF history.
The UCF closer was one of four pitchers from Conference USA to be selected to the Watch List, which tied the SEC and the Big 12 for the most among all conferences.
Along with being a Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, Rogers was voted onto the C-USA All-Freshman Team last season. He finished the year with a 4-2 record and a 4.50 ERA in 23 appearances in his first year at the Division I level. Rogers fanned 43 hitters in 48.0 innings, walking just 17.
Rogers and the Knights will kick off the 2011 season with Opening Day Friday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m. against Siena. Season tickets are currently on sale and there are several different packages to choose from. Call the UCF Ticket Office at (407) 823-1000 or visit UCFAthletics.com for more details.
